“Comics and Hardcover Bookbinding”
Teacher: Chris Monday
This course was focused on the creation of comic narratives and the process of hard cover book binding. Students were encouraged to create a comic narrative but the book itself was open to any form they wish to use it for be it a comic narrative, a personal sketch book, or a diary or journal. Options were presented and my objective as the instructor is to guide the students in a direction they feel most excited to pursue.
Students were introduced to genres for storytelling — in Fiction: comedy, drama, horror, action/adventure, science fiction and more. Non-fiction can be as simple as basic experiences from the writer’s own life, history, or any variety of educational information. The comic aspect of the class explained the best ways of having flow in the narrative, from sequencing the frames in a reader-friendly order to the flow of speech bubbles within the frames. We also discussed stylistic choices from more realistic images to the simplest stick person styles.
