“Rock & Digital Music History”

Teacher: Jessica Fletcher

Co-Teacher: Ryan Eilbeck

Students experienced a 7-day intensive combining rock/punk/Hip Hop history, songwriting, live band skills, and Digital Audio Workspace (DAW)-based production. Classes included short history lessons, exploration and listening activities, hands-on DAW/MIDI work, live instrument practice, songwriting, collaboration, and daily sharing. The class culminated in recorded music tracks and a final showcase.

Youth engaged with DAW & MIDI technologies, as well as live instruments to choose from (including guitar, bass, drums, etc.) so individual preference was included in programming in order to increase engagement, motivation, and interest. All youth participated in musical creation, with a focus on emotion and culture, which encourages youth to build healthy social emotional skills, explore individual identity, and build empathy and respect with peers.
